Looking at my post count here you may think I am a real audio nut... and I am, in my own way; but that doesn't mean I actually spend any significant amount of time listening to music!!
I'd say on an average week I listen to less than half an hour of music--sometimes I'd have a few days in a week where I spend 1-2 hours at night listening to stuff, but other weeks I don't even touch my (still quite diminutive) audio gear. Also my album collection grows at a snail's pace.
Part of this is because I'm busy, part of this is because I can't listen to music while I work (I'm not a multitasking guy), and yet another part of this is because I am not THAT mad about music (and THAT has something to do with the two points above).
Now look at johnnylexus's sale--he's basically selling EVERYTHING after he bought an impressive setup and found he has no time to listen to it. Will I follow his footsteps?
I'm having serious doubts about how much gear I should have to be in proportion to my amount of audio enthusiasm. It's not that I plan on selling anything--having heard the etys and Senn 580 I can never go back--but do I really need to plunk down big money for a source and amp upgrade?
I'm seriously thinking of getting a little sub-$200 minisystem for somewhat better sound quality over a pcdp for home listening and have done with it.
It's a dilemma--though I don't listen to music much, I still like my music and would like my music to sound as good as reasonably possible when I have time to listen to it, but given how little time I listen to music and hence the low priority this has, and my tight budget (I would be borrowing from the credit card for amp and source purchases), how good is 'reasonably good'?
