I'm thinking about trying out planars, and I'm looking at either hifiman deva pro or edition xs. Currently I'm using Sony 1AM2 and 1000xm3. I listen to classics, pop, and anime soundtracks. Will I heard a big improvement with planars? Should I try it out with the cheaper deva pro or go straight up to edition xs?

Thanks

Edition XS is a better can IMO, but costs more. Before you do anything find out how much power your amp puts out at the impedance of the headphone. Can you find out what it puts out at 30 and 50 ohms? Planars tend to need more power than dynamic headphones. If you have a potent amp that puts out 2 wpc @ 50 ohms consider the HFM HE-5 SE v2, which is a good deal better than either - IMO. So please listen if possible and get those stats,

See if you can get a good deal on the HE5XX on ebay. I use them every day and they sound great. A much better value than the edition xs. I've had every Hifiman up to the Arya and think the Ananda is best overall, but the he5xx is the best value, also light and comfortable.
