You would hear a difference if you got an amp with any headphone, but you won't benefit from it as much with the M50's I don't think. I wouldn't call the M50s an audiophile headphone, it's more of a basshead headphone. If you do amp them, you're just going to get more and more bass.

Adding a component to the chain will always degrade the sound of the source in some way. 
Adding an amp may be louder or sound different but it cannot give more detail.
