Will a Stereo Receiver sound better than a headphone amp?

I am looking at many stereo receivers on Ebay-some from within 10 yrs. and some 70s and 80s ones...I see some have lots of controls, some more than others-such as bass treble, super bass etc...will a stereo receiver possibly sound better than a headphone amp-am using SHURE SRH840 and Sennheiser SD380/280
