My motherboard is an Asrock Z87 Extreme 4: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87%20Extreme4/
I'm using the onboard sound, which as far as I can tell, is pretty good. But then I don't really have anything extremely high end to compare it to. The onboard sound goes to a passive preamp, which outputs the signal to a pair of Dynaudio BM5a mkII monitors. I love how the Dyn's sound and just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of them, so I'm interested to hear opinions on whether one of those $200 high end sound cards (e.g. Asus Xonar) really make a difference.
Another option, I suppose, would be a DAC like the Schiit Modi. So same question, different equipment.
