Really need 50K pot for balance B22 amp and so far no such luck? At this point I will take any reasonably priced pot. Don’t really like steps but if I could find good one under <$200 would consider also.
Thanks!

Thanks. I know about ebay store but he doesn't have 50k ones.

Yes he does, but its motorized. But you can always remove it.

Shoot him an e-mail, perhaps they having something that isn't listed right now... Couldn't hurt to ask. Otherwise it can be tough to find a quad gang pot.

You could also look into the Joshua Tree Stepped attenuator. Having used one the steps are very small so you can definitely get the right level. The relay clicking sounds cool too

@ vvs. i currently have a 4 channel b22 that im ironically running at the moment with one of those 4 gang alps quad potentiometers (50K) without the motorized pot. im SURE i bought it from that same ebay seller initially, although i guess hes sold out now. Ive been thinking for awhile of upgrading to a DACT balanced attenuator, so if youd be interested, i could definitely sell you the quad pot for cheaper than itd cost you to get it from germany. let me know, its in perfect working condition etc. PM me

Thank for the offer but I am still thinking. I put so much time and money in this amp that I think that ALPS pot won't do justice to this amp. At this point I am looking for nice DIY attenuator kit. Thanks again!

Do you really need 50k? A 25k or 20k should work just fine.

I have a 10k quad blue velvet from that ebay store in my Dynamite,
and it works great.

the impedance of the pot has little to do with the gain of the amp. it has EVERYTHING to do with the output impedance of the preceding stage. if its SS, odds are good the preceding stage has a low enough output impedance to drive a 10k-ohm pot though.

there is a seller on ebay who sells 4-deck pots. the name escapes me, nate linked to their ebay-store a while back.

it looks like they only have 5&10k-ohm pots at the moment. i would email them if you *need* a 50k-ohm pot. most SS sources can drive 10K ohm and you will get better noise rejection.

in that case you could always go with a DACT

We're not doing very well guys, we're not even up to double the OP's budget yet!

I don't know how you feel about them, but both digital volume controls (PGA23xx, WM8816, DS1802) and relay-based attenuators can usually be configured fairly easily for balanced operation. And IMO, they have less disadvantages and operate more accurately than a more expensive pot, but they do give you some more stuff to mount in your case

. A kit like the Joshua Tree will set you back about half the price of an equivalent SA or pot, and perform at least as well. Going with a digital control is even less expensive, and the specs and sound are generally impressive (at least PGA23xx series). You can build a pair of my MiniVol boards for under $50, for example.
