Why portable amps?

I would guess the cost of a toroid transformer/diodes etc and case make the profit margin less attractive. If they went wall wart it's still ~10% of the $150 price.

I just read that MisterX's XP amp can drive Darth Beyers... there ya go, but that's not what I consider portable.

Supermini is a portable amp that can drive just about everything but 600ohm cans, HD650 prolly, and supposedly not Darths...but I'll live. It's worth it to me to buy an amp that's smaller than a pack of cigs that can push the still huge list of cans around. I can take it everywhere, plug it in at home and let it run for hours while recharging my batteries that can last for 100hrs on the go without needing to be charged again. Versatility... that measly $50 makes a huge difference in size of the amp, but I can't testify to any of these amps.

I am A LOT more interested in the XP amp now, tho...
