hey all, i'm new here, to seek advice for my various portable/headphone queries. :p

Don't get me wrong, it never skips, holds ****loads of songs and can pump out crystal clear sound, but its SO damn quiet!

no matter what headphone i use it just doesnt give the oomph that i want (bahaha i said "oomph" )

>rant over.

MD doesn't have crystal clear sound, vandit?? Okay...

CrzyAzn, all MD equipment has pitifully low headphone outputs - especially Sonys and Panasonics. Sharps and Aiwas have higher output, and have more "oomph"

, but nothing like an older PCDP, or iPod, sadly.

More like, md's don't have the power to make most headhpones sound crystal-clear. The format itself and teh D/A converting is okay.

****, that blows then. so no matter what headphone i use it'll still be quiet?

so far i've used only comparatively ****ty headphones when compared to something like a Sennheiser or whatever's supposed to be top notch

-> Sony MDR-500, some Koss closed headphone, i dont remember what it was, and several other cheap headphones.

Well, i use Sony 7506's and Grado headphones as well as portapro's...they all go quite loud, i set the volume halfway or less and its more than enough.

it cant compare to any of the old school sony cd players, but in this world today, what can? everything is horribly underpowered to increase battery life. however, some headphones exemplify this weakness a lot more... i've found the V6s and KSC-50s easy enough to drive from my MD. some old Sennheisers sounded like crap hooked up to the MD - all quiet and no punch. an amp will fix that.

must say both my sony netmd deck (UK MDS-JB980Q and my portab;e mze 900) both have loud sound coming out, i do use sony mdr ex70 with both them and have no trouble with low sound

I find both my Nomad II and Sony MZ-N707 don't play really loud. But your problem is with the amplifier power, not with the NetMD format. Likely you'll have the same problem with a PCDP as now battery life is the big selling point and power outputs drop.

Sounds like you really want a portable headphone amp so you can blast your tunes nice and loud.

I recommend you hang out in the portable amplification forum for a while and get recommendations on a portable headphone amp. I really think a portable headphone amp will solve your problem.
