are stax headphones better than dynamic headphones?
if my main music is pop/rock and I don't like to hear massy bass, should i go for stax headphones?
can anyone recommend me a stax headphone/amp which is on the same level of GS1000 or higher
plz also recommend a nice amp for your picked headphone.
ARE STAX HEADPHONES COMFORTABLE because comfort is also one of my issue? (so far for me , AKG 701 isn't comfortable due to headband; GS1000, Denon D5000, ath-w5000 are very comfortable)
thanks

thanks

Not everyone has gone to Stax phones. If I was to go to elec. phones it would be the Senn. HE90. Otherwise I would pick several different dynamic phone/amp combos over the three different Stax systems I have heard. (3030 system and O2/Kgsss ES-1/Lambda Pro)

Far from everyone have quit dynamic headphones and gone for a Stax system. Thats for sure!

I suggest you audition some, and make up your own mind. Even if an O2 and a tube amp is a pretty safe choice....

Seconded. Every system has its place. In case of the Stax 005A, that place is on my head.

Electrostatics take on mystic proportion, when you have never heard them. In my opinion there is nothing mystic about them. I went through my own electrostatic phase. I thought the Investment much to big for the payback. The big issue was the limited amount of gear out there.

Meaning? I think that is exactly one of the qualities of leccystat setups. Speaking STAX, you make your pick, you plunk down, you set it up, and that is pretty much it. There is no near-obligatory tweak-out phase.

I don't know if I would go that far. Days after spending the money for an Omega II/007t system I thought the sound was okay but nothing special. I then started buying new balanced CDPs as I was told that the 007 sounds its best with balanced input. Now I have several balanced CDPs I am trying and I am searching for an upgraded amp as I am still not entirely happy with the sound of the stock system. I have now spent over 10k on new CDPs, 2.5k on power conditioning as I was told this was important and now I am looking to spend up to 5k on an amp since buying this system in January.

Electrostats aren't for everyone. With that said, you definitely need to audition some and decide for yourself. I'm one that left the dynamics camp and never looked back after hearing the O2 from a meet. Detail is my top priority and stats provide that in spades.

I'd say electrostats are different - not necessarily better. Depends all from listening habits and genre choice.

Now that's simply exploring the equipment's abilities.

And good equipment will always scale upwards. By tweaking I mean feeling the urgent need to change cables, pads, remove/change foam that - for me - comes with dynamic phones, along with the compulsory upgrading of the amp's power supply because you feel it is all still lacking somehow. Of course you can throw money at your stat setup too, but for me the out-of-the-box-happy factor was much higher.

Very much so. I'd say if one can afford it, one should give them a try. One might find something that one can spend a whole lot of money on in the realm of dynamics without ever finding it.

I'd say that technically stats are superior. Whether or not you find them sonically superior, however, is up to your ears and that's a "different" story.

You've had some real bad recommendations there. First off no power filtering should be used with Stax amps unless you have some switching PSU on the same power line i.e. a computer, flat screen TV etc. Try connecting the 007t directly into the wall with a simple, unshielded power cord.

The 007t doesn't really mind whether there is a SE or XLR input so just use the best source you can get. You get more volume with the XLR connection if the source is really balanced but a pure, well designed signal path is much more important.

The core of the problem is though that the 007t will never do the SR-007 justice as it simply isn't powerful enough. No amount of tweaking will change that fact.

that's about true - what a noticed on two meets was that tube amps like 007t and egmont are waaay not enough powerful - in compare 717 is whole world better - atleast for me

and having in mind my experiences with dynamics - really powerful tube amp. can take this headphones to level unreached by any other can - I've got to try BH and O2
