I don't know haha, I started wondering that today too which inevitably led to me searching for various pictures/reviews.

I can say this: if the w5000's used the same wood/finish as the w1000 i'd be MUCH more inclined to get a pair haha.

I think its because people (like me) are looking for a good can in the price range of 700-1000$ and honestly its a really dead zone, not a lot of chices.
And the W5000 looks promising within its position.

Am I right ?

If that was the only reason, then you`d read a lot more about the ATH-AD2000 as well, just as an example.

But we don`t.

W5000 is a fashionable kind of "hype", mostly.
It`s supposed to be "cool".

Doesn`t make it a bad can, of course.

Probably true. I became interested in finding out more about them after reading a very positive review by Iron Dreamer. It probably was not a good idea, given that his review of Sony SA5000 was a big factor in my decision to purchase them.

Could be. It's definitely a step up from the $300-$400 crowd, albeit not quite twice as good... diminishing returns and such.

Hmm, what is in that general pricerange? RS1, W5000, K1000 (if you can find one).... Sennheiser needs an awesome closed headphone in that pricerange.

I'm also intending to sell mine in the future. Again because the presentation just doesn't do it for me.

Fantastic technical proficiency (especially for a closed can), but the timbre just feels wrong to me.

If only that same rule applied to the HE90...

Yea the W1000 finish is preferable to the W5000 to me as well. While I have not seen the W5000 in person (could make a difference I suppose), the finish on the W1000 is quite striking. I am curious to hear the W5000 wondering how much different they sound compared to the W1000?
