Why AKG K1000 selling in so high price?

Look at these price for K1000, horrible high ! How much when it came out? US$600 or 700.
Some people in China bought them for quite cheap price, say, average US$800, selling them for much more than that. is it worth for paying them through nose? I am going to do some loadup when k2000, k3000... unleashed.

I believe the MSRP was around $1200 when the K-1000 was released. The price varied a lot before it was discontinued. Once AKG stopped making it, prices went up and have stayed there.

Must be a supply/demand thing. What I find surprising is that AKG made roughly 12,000 (I assume based on the serial numbers) over the years, but you don't see many come up for sale. You'd think there would be a fair turnover keeping prices low, but that isn't happening.

yup, just low reseller, coupled with the phone's Damn-goodness keeps the market price so high

As always, price is driven by supply and demand. Demand is increased due to the collectibility of out of production headphones, the unusual nature of the K1000s, and the reported great sound. Supply is constrained by the fragility, the out of production status, and the limited number of people willing to part with them.

Only you can decide if it's worth it to buy them.

Actually it's one of the only discontinued phones that sells for the same or even lower price it did when it was in production.

The high prices you see now are due to them being hardwired and recabled with better aftermarket cables. They were $1000+ when in production and you can get them stock for $1000. The ones that are $1400+ are recabled more times than not.

Well, they sold for significantly less than $1000 new for a few years.

The inflated prices are very much head-fi centric. You can do far far far better than the, frankly, bonkers and ridiculous $1750 thats being asked for a low numbered stock pair in the FS forums at the minute, whatever their miraculous extra bass drivers might be. For $500 less, there is at the same time, a pair with an Equinox recable. Sub $1000 is doable so long as you've got a bit of patience and a sharp eye.

Then you put in a bid for the most that you will pay at a time when you do have a free minute. If you're outbid, then nothing lost.

The only sensible way to buy from ebay, unless it's buy it now, is a free site like this one that I use:

1. Discontinued.
2. Demand higher than supply.
