i listen to CDs using my G08 cd player. this means that every time i want to change artists/albums, i have to eject the CD, put it back in its case, find a new CD from the huge pile of music laying around my apartment, load it and press play. but this also means that for the most part i listen to an album start to finish. and i take great pleasure in doing so. it allows me to get a good feel of the singer and his or her abilities and approch to music in general. i couldn't imagine switching albums every song or two, even if it were less of a chore. but i wonder if some people do this and i especially feel that those using computer-based systems probably do this a lot.

so my question is: are you computer based or do you use a physical media (CD, vinyl, etc) AND do you generally listen to an album in its entirely or just a few songs before moving on. and maybe post a few words of why.

Whole albums via CD player. I switched from PC as source to CDP too, as I always listen to full albums. Exceptions being cases such as Chicago Transit Authority, I'll skip Free Form Guitar sometimes. Also with Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, I skip Wish You Were Here every single time.

I used to listen to whole (or nearly whole) albums; now I'm more a half-album guy -- I may then take a break and go on, or may switch discs. Don't quite know why; perhaps it is a habit out of listening to classical music, as most classical pieces (symphonies, concertos, quartets) are roughly half- or one-third album length.

Physical media all the way. Don't even have any mp3 in my hard-disk.

yeah. classical is a bit different, esp. opera. i haven't listened to a complete wagner opera in years (4 CDs generally).

For me, it really seems to be mood driven. Sometimes I only want 1-2 songs and sometimes, I prefer a whole album.

Since I got my turntable though, I've found myself listening to more whole albums on account of it being easier to listen to a complete vinyl album than skip around on one (at least with my player).

I generally listen an album at a time, either CD, computer or ipod.
I usually pick the album for the mood I'm in and let it play, even if I don't always pay attention through the whole album. On occasion I will look for a certain song on an album, but then let the rest of the album play to the end.

With today's iTunes and buying a song at a time and creating playlists, the time of albums may be doomed.

I'm busy most of the day . . . I'll play a few tracts on the CD here n there for a break. Lunchtime . . . sometimes one side of vinyl calms me down so I can deal with the idiots for the balance of the day.

I used to skip around a lot more when I used computer-as-source. These days, it's 90% vinyl and SACD, so I tend to listen all the way through.

I usually tend to listen to the whole album on artists i really like/when I have a bit of time I can put into listening to music.

If it's just music to fall asleep/while I'm working on something else that takes priority, I just play what happens to be in a playlist, whether it's a full album or random selected tracks.

I listen from my computer and I listen mostly whole albums, sometimes even more than one album per band in a row. I sit down in my beanbag chair to listen to music and I'm too lazy to stand up and change songs as it is very stressful to stand up from this kind of "chair".
I like it when one song ends and I know how the next one will start but I am still amazed when the next song starts because it sound so good

Vinyl - whole album
Digital - jump around

Listen to around 90%, vinyl so pretty much whole album all the time.

FLAC on the computer with the CDs stashed neatly away for safe keeping. I'm definitely an album guy, usually listening to two or three in a single session.

Back in High School, I usually fed my lunch money, to the juke box at the corner luncheonette. 6 plays for a quarter. Always played the different artists. That's why I like the itunes playlists. I consider myself fortunate to find five choice tracks on any given album.

Albums encoded in Apple Lossless on my computer. Usually played back as complete albums...
