and what file format will it be?

  1. A - FLAC (PCM)
  2. B - ALAC (PCM)
  3. C - MQA (MQA)
  4. D - WAV (PCM)
  5. E - DSD (DSD)
  6. F - Other

For this discussion let's consider anything over 16/44 hi-res. This includes 24/44 and 24/48 lossless using our current products.

MQA claims to be lossy hi-res using their new loss method, and since I've never heard it or been able to study it I'll include it as choice.

Follow ups:

  1. What about DRM? Is copy protection enough to stop full-quality streaming now that bandwidth allows it?
  2. How much would you pay to stream a lossless, best-source possible, music catalog?

damn, maybe no one?

i'd pay for access to the world's music catalog in high-res, but only if my DAP could render it properly.

i'd rather own my collection but it would be tempting to have a subscription around for listening tangents.

Reviving in hopes of not creating new thread.

I want a dedicated streaming player. Thinking of a iPhone SE as burner iPhones sell for 150. Anything cheaper or better for that price?

Going to use with fiio q1 mk2
