I'm finally getting rid of this crappy clearwire. I want to give the Sprint service a shot. I've been told that the speed is par with Comcast speed and it's burst speeds are accurate, and the actual regular transfer speeds are infact as claimed. Unlike clearwire, where I have the 1.5mb service and see only 56Kbs DL...occasionally, I'll see 100kbs....but for the most part, it's just REALLY FAST dial up. Still broadband, but it's no comcast...

ANybody have experiance with the Spint service? I don't want to be locked into another 2 year contract of half assed internet service with alot of hype. I've been doing ALOT of reading on the Sprint service and it apparently beats the dog piss out of all the other wireless offerings. Any first hand experiance here?

Are you talking about Sprint PCS Power Vision?

I have it and a PPC-6700 phone that I can use as a modem.

EVDO Rev A is faster, but not really everywhere. Xohm (WiMax) is supposed to be much faster, but they've barely rolled out full coverage for EVDO. But supposedly Xohm will be easier to set up.

I definitely wouldn't rely on Sprint PCS Wireless internet alone, I have Road Runner broadband. Maybe when WiMax is out, I might change my mind.

If you're covered by EVDO Rev A, it's amazingly fast. My roommate (who works for a sprint vendor at a sprint site) was given one of the newest data cards, and with an external antenna he can pull 3.5mbit.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Not through a phone, but either through the PCMCIA, Expresss slot or USB port.

I know they were talking about revising the network to make it even faster, but that was a couple months ago when I heard that. So it's actually pretty dece considering it's in a Sprint cell phone coverage area....I should be alright.

Any other opinions? I really need to get rid of this clearwire junk...

Well, if you are only really surfing the internet and downloading occassionally, Sprint Broadband cards with data service should do nicely. Otherwise, the latency is pretty high, and upload speeds are quite slow in comparison for EVDO Rev 0.

If you have Rev A in your area or are one of the few places that will be getting Xohm, then you will be set.

I have Sprint, and for my [admittedly obsolescent] iMac, it is very good. The long nightmare of sbcglobal is over.

Yeah, we have the high end service here. I'll be using it mainly as a place I can upload and update my website anywhere anytime with great speeds. Also, DL music is a plus, lol.

Hmm...looks like I know what I'll be getting here then...
