Just wondering how many of you guys have removed the foam inserts in your k81's. I personally have them removed right now, but I tend to change my setups quite often. I like the increase in highs and I think the mod calms the bass down quite a bit. Well let's hear it!

I removed mine shortly after I received them. Definitely brought out the highs and tamed the bass a bit.

I've tried mine both ways at different stages of burn in and the pads definitely gets in the way of good sound.

I couldn't imagine putting the foam inserts BACK IN. The K81DJ is a much better headphone without them IMO.

wow, looks like most people are taking the foams out. I wasn't sure what the "magnitude" of this mod was. So far we're 7:1 : )

I just removed the pads and I really like them better now. I didn't think it would make a noticeable difference.

Oh, i voted no, never toched them, but hey, removed them now, and they sure sound more open and shrill, but still really calm! great tip!

That's the treble coming out, not shrill. Shrill is normally used in conjunction with sr325.

I was very sceptical in the beginning, but I develop from a basshead towards a treblehead anyway.

Same here. I started out a basshead then found out I liked my treble more and more.

the k81's don't come 'alive' until the restrictive foams are removed, imo

What exactly is this mod? Mine are kinda of broken so I don't mind too much. I took off the pad, now what am I supposed to do with it?

No need to remove the pads to get rid of the foam. Just drag the foam out from the outside of the pads, and enjoy.
