After reading another thread and seeing that GAD has - what for the average mortal - would be considered an overabundance of computer related equipment at home, it got me wondering.

While mine pales in comparision to GADs, I have 4 PCs and a laptop in current use around the house, and I have about 6 other PCs in various states of disassembly or storage (read - lying around in my study and the garage).

Tell us about your computer related hardware holdings.

Back in my 9' x 11' college dorm room (I'm at home for the summer), I have 6 desktop computers and 4 laptops. Not all of them are in working condition, but it's enough to keep me nice and toasty during the cold winters.

Back when I was about 16 I had 5 IBM 386's in working condition in my bedroom. Granted 386's were already a very ancient 6 years old at that point and they had absolutely no purpose, but being surrounded by humming processors was fun. My friends and I would have "multiplayer" gaming, like seeing who could score the highest on Pac-Man in 5 minutes.

I currently have:

1 1.66mhz dual core laptop with linux/winxp
3 1.8ghz pentium 4 with linux
1 2.9ghz athonxp 3200+ with linux
1 2.5ghz athlonxp 2600m with linux
1 750mhz duron with linux
1 333mhz k6 with linux

for a grand total of 15.2ghz
not quite as much as GAD but quite a bit none the less.

I may get an intel quad core or 2 in the next year.

The rack can simulate all manor of networks including full T1-speed Frame-relay and ISDN. I used the rack to make all the examples in my book (except for the 6509s - I don't have enough power). I also use the rack for work and my CCIE studies.

It's a tax write-off.

Well, I used to.

Now it's speakers. There are speakers everywhere. A driver here, a driver there, hey look, a crossover. Oh boy, binding posts! OH, some wood!

Yah see, we don't really have a garage....

3 Macbooks (one white, two black), an Intel Mac Mini which is hooked to the TV and acts as my media center and runs my network drive. Then the studio has a PowerMac G4 which I play with OSX server on and also run Logic Pro for recording music and podcasts.

We use Chicken of the VNC to control the Mac Mini remotely with the Macbooks while sitting on the couch. Makes it easy to share YouTube videos and whatnot on the big screen. I also taught my Logitech Harmony Remote Control to talk to the Mini so that I can run Front Row without having to use VNC just to listen to music.

Ohh, and an Airport Express is upstairs to repeat the WiFi from the Airport Extreme downstairs, and also to network an all in one printer in the upstairs office/spare bedroom.

Scott Morris teaches at ipexpert. He sells CCIE study books that sell for over $600, though I don't think he gets quite the volume a retail book would.

I don't try to catch up to anyone. I'd rather make it so others want to catch up to me.

I, as an average end user, only have two PCs. One for me, another for wife.
But, I got bunch of old stuffs from old days.... like...

10 NIC cards, 3 56K modems, 5 old video card, 2 486's, 3 pentiums, 3 AMD's and 1 cyrix, about 30 used and new fans, 8 sound cards, 4 EDO rams, about ten 64~256M SDrams and other itny bitny stuffs in two storage boxes. I don't know why I still keep them. I should start get rid of them.
