Who else feels like the Sennheiser HD598s are unwearable?

Strange effectively, HD5xx series are very comfortable with a slight clamping force. If for you the HD598 has a huge clamping force, never, NEVER buy the HD380pro, your head ll explode, lol. You must have a very large head or your HD598 has a headband problem.

This. ^
I had the chance to try the HD595's last year, they were darn comfy to my head. Its design is very similar to the 598's.

I tried the 595 and remember it being a minor issue, but I now have the 650 with no problems with clamp force. This is coming from the DT990s comfort too. Also I do have a fairly large head, 7 3/4 hat.

Same issue that people have with HD650 if they dont wear them properly.

You need to make sure to wear them so that the driver will be in level with your ear canal, which means you need to expand the headband much further than you would think at first.  I have my HD650's and HD558's expanded 1,5 inches on each side.  That makes them EXTREMELY comfortable and they have very light clamping force.  Expand them more than you would at first think. They feel kinda awkward at first because they're so low, but thats the way to wear them, otherwise they're very tight.

If you think HD598's are uncomfortable, stay away from HD650's.  The latter has even more clamping force.  However, for me, I find the HD598's to be very comfortable.  After putting them on for a few minutes listening to several songs, I usually almost do not notice I'm wearing headphones any more.

yep - im with all these others- the fit and the sahpe of the 558s/598s and the 650s are all insanly comfortable for long listening periods.
i find my beyers  only slightly less comfortable and my grados well frankly awful but thats as i havnt invested in a headband wroap yet,
im assuming you have a very round head shape rather than the oval that i have .. my advice would be to look at IEms as round head is veryy tough to find comfort with,
