I was browsing Jan Meier's Meier-Audio website today and found his Tips and Tricks page. One recommendation was to wear headphones low and forward on your ears (rather than centered), the idea being that it improves imaging and detail. I tried it out and do think it gives a slightly more spacious sound. Give it a try!

Yep. Works wonders on circumaurals with lots of room to play, like many AKG designs (my K701 included). Funny how Ultrasone seems to have addressed this head on with their driver positioning system.

While this may provide a pleasing (albeit more distant) listening perspective, it definitely does not provide more detail, imo.

Impact is lost as well.

In fact vocals sound a little bit distant when I wear the HD650 that way.

I believe that full-sized headphones are designed / optimised to be worn in the more natural & instinctive fashion, i.e. the ear more or less centered at the middle of the earpad. Changing the natural fit on the head may suit some special tastes though.
