I'm looking for a solid used 2-channel preamp for under $300 used, and have a great deal of interest in Adcom. I want to know if there are any particular models (or years) of special merit, or ones that are less desirable. A tuner is a nice feature, but not absolutely necessary. Of course, if someone thinks I should look at some alternative brand, go ahead and suggest away, as long as it is available for less than $300 used.

Some Adcom models I have seen on the used market lately:
GTP350
GTP400
GTP450
GTP555
GTP565
GTP500 II

The SLC looks very good, but I'm wondering if I might need the gain provided by a preamp if I were to hook up a portable digital player (like an iPod) through a line out.

I had the GTP-350 and thought it was great. I used it with the GFA 535(?) amp
and for the money I don't think it could be beat. I sold it on Ebay for about
$90.00.

I have a GTP-500II have have been very happy with it, though the tuner section needs to have the trimmer cap replaced and tuned. Overall very good entry point into "mid-fi".
