I'm ready to go the next step and get an amp .I wolud like to know which total airhead would give a better bass response ,the 4.5v or the 9v model. I rather like the 1st position bass boost on my old Sony D-303. Without it the very lowest tones are inaudible or weak. I'm using ER4P and yes I get a good seal.
Would appreciate any suggestions keeping in mind that I may convert to the 4S someday.

I use the Total Airhead 4.5 with either the ER4P or SR325, and I'm very please with the results. However, I've heard that the 9v is suppose to provide more bass. If that's true, I sure don't miss it. I chose the 4.5 because of the 40 hour battery time and it is easier to get AAA batteries when I'm traveling. I plan to add the wall wart for the office when it becomes available, which should eliminate any differences between the two models.

DeanA just about nailed it. Remember, with Ety's you're not going to get room shaking low freqs. Only what's really there. And be VERY careful about volume. You probably would enjoy music 20 or 30 years from now, but too loud now and you won't.

Edit: Probably should have checked your Profile. You probably already know about playing them too loud.

Can't agree more with the above statements. And, since you're getting an amp, why not spring for the "S" adapter cable from someplace like Fixup? Will extend the overall frequency response of the Etys, including the bass.

I have the ER4P and a JMT built CHA 47. When using the amp, I almost always add the S adapter cable. The stock ER4P provides excellent sound, especially with an amp. But adding the adapter cable just improves the sound a bit more.

Good luck!!!

Why is that?

See the thread in the Headroom Forum on new TAH versus old TAH.

I have the opposite a 9V that I run at 4.5. I agree that there is a slght difference. As was stated in other threads it is the differences are also headphone dependant.

One thing to remember is that the 4.5V TAH will operate longer on a set of batteries than the 9V model. Depends where it will be used most.
