Out of the old Discmans, the Sony D311 is regarded as being one of the best, but that is no longer in production-you can expect to pay some money for one of them. Out of current Discmans then I don't know. I have the d-ne920 and that sounds excellent out of the line-out. I also have a D-225CR and that sounds great better than the d-ne920. Thats all I know.

I was told that the Sony D-NE330 is a great PCDP, and the D-NF330 or D-NF430? is the same but with a Radio.

The D-NE330 has 15mW+15mW @16ohm output,

Go retro. Seriously. I just found an old D-22 for pennies & it is sooooo nice to listen to ( I have a D-NE 900 & I prefer the 22) - more musical, involving, beautiful sound with excellent separation. Only downside as such - it doesn't recognise CD-Rs, but I use the 900 for those...

Check Duncan's great post for historical Discmans:

The only real problem I have with the NE330 is that is has a real nasty hiss with my UM2s. To the point where the hiss overpowers the music. It sounded good with my K81 though.

330 is the exception in the Sony line-up in that it has an incredibly beefy output. All the other pcdps have far less power. I've tried e3c with the d-ne920 and there is no hiss.
