I bought a DS Lite from Target today, and I promised myself that I would resist opening the package until I have some screen protectors. Which ones should I get? I have my eyes on the full body shield at shieldzone.com because I also bought my invisible shield from there. But do they make the ds shields with the same prestige as the IS? Or should I look towards Hori products, albeit the instructions are in Japanese? Help me decide please!

For screen protectors the issue is how easily they scratch due to stylus use. I use a generic Fellows PDA screen protector on my DS, and you can see etched into it the various magical symbols from Castlevania Dawn of Sorrows on it.

The hori screen protectors appear to be the best for this application - I just picked up a few for Mercuttio for his DS Lite from Japan because of this, as the Nintendo shop here in NYC doesn't appear to currently have them. I'll get them eventually when I upgrade to a Lite (still resisting for a Donkey Kong custom coloured one...)

Best,

-Jason

You need to get Hori brand and ONLY Hori brand. Other types can leave residue on the screen. Also: don't use ANYthing from a PDA company. I put one on my DS Lite when I first got it and damn, that thing was impossible to pull off. It took this guy at an import store in Chinatown like 7 minutes to figure out how to pry it off... and I have no idea how much worse it would have been if it had been there longer.

So no... nothing else is a Hori one.

Anyone have any comments about shieldzone protectors?

Should take under a week from Lik-Sang. And not to sound... er, stuck up... but if I haven't heard about the shieldzone protectors, I don't think they can be that good. I read up on a lot of game boards (god my job is boring) and things like that come up pretty often. Only the Hori ones ever get reccomended.

How can you think they can't be good if you've never heard about them?

That's almost an oxymoron within itself. That'd be like me saying, well, since I've never drove a Ferrari, it can't be any better than the 3000GT I drive now.

Extreme, I know, but the Invisible Shield for th DS really does work great. And dust or debris that gets on the screen easily wipes away and they (can) come off without a scratch. Maybe you haven't heard about 'em because nobody else has tried them?

But they do work great. However, had I know the ones you're recommending were the gamer's choice, I probably would have picked them up instead.

Yeah, my dad got the IS for his PDA and while it's awesome and scratch-resistant, it's really too sticky to allow the stylus to glide along easily. The one I got is perfect for my iAudio, though!

Where's a link to these Hori screen protectors? I'll tell him to order one of those instead.

I may not have a DS, but I know for a fact that my Hori PSP screen protector is the best thing ever. Works great, stays clean, even hides previous scratches!

No no, I mean, I've heard of a Ferrari, but news of something like that gets around REALLY fast. The Hori ones were picked up by someone who started raving about them and they spread like wildfire. Someone realized that the Altoids tin was perfect for PSP games, and those spread like wildfire on the message boards. It's possible you're on the cutting edge though, have they been out long?

I've decided and ordered Hori screen protectors and a Hori multi-pouch from Play-Asia. Hopefully I've made the right purchase. Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah I just did that too but I got the smaller pouch. The screen protectors are on backorder but the estimated ship date is the 6th.

I figure they've been out a pretty good while. I got my around Christmas last year. I figured the IS did a great job protecting my Ipod so I grabbed a set for my DS as well. The only complaint I have is the shield isn't very smooth for using the stylus. I mean, it's not bad by any means, but it just could be better.

If the Hori protects the screen as well as the IS (I'm comfortable knowing I could rub sand paper on my screen and not get a scratch) and it's as unnoticeable as the IS, then it's probably a better bet.

Oh yeah, and assuming the price is right. I believe the IS is 14.95 with lifetime guarantee/replacements.
