What's an easy choice for PCDP if I'm using ER-6's, Naxos & c. classical music cds, and dislike bass and mid-range boost.

The only PCDP I've owned is RS 3400 & I've read Duncan's classic PCDP. But it's not the time for me to deal with e-bay and alternate sources. And Duncan is half-hearted about the top-end SONY--even if I wanted a $150 PCDP.

Is there an easy choice? don't need shuffle, don't need MP-3, don't need CD-RW. Probably don't need audio out. Just no bass boost.

Amazon churns out 260 PCDPs--some with technical specs; some without; 30% discontinued. It's too much. Appreciate any pointed suggestion about player and sources other than Amazon.

Maybe hang around the Gear For Sale/Trade forum for any D-25s that pop up? Considered "bright" by some, (not including me though

) it might just be right up your alley.

I don't know the 321 (and was intending to get to know this very one, but don't get me started about posting links to running ebay auctions

...). I do have several D-33s and must say this is a really great player (I listen mainly to classical BTW), and usually goes for very reasonable prices (got my last one in fair condition for 4$+shipping, and a NIB for 29$). Strong headphone out, said to work very well with Etys...

Hi Peter / Pappucho...

I've removed that link for the D321 from Pappuchos post, seeing that Peter seems to be interested... Hopefully you guys know why.. although, if you see that as an issue, drop me a PM

Cheers

Thanks, Duncan, but as there's no general head-fi policy against posting ebay links (and as past discussions on this matter have shown there won't be one), I feel you probably shouldn't start doing this.
I don't like to see such postings and try not to make them, so if I want to alert somebody who might be interested I do it by PM. Others feel different though, so everybody should do what he thinks is right, I can live with it...

Sorry about that Peterr, I hate it when they do that to me as well. I didn't know you were looking for one, keep me posted on what you are looking for and I'll PM if I see something and i'll refrain from posting it.

I second this choice for Classical music. It will drive almost any cans well without an amp, though that is not a consideration with the ER-6. Not very portable, though.....

Thanks to everyone for pointing me to D25 and the 33. There's no urgency about this and knowing what I'm looking for solves my difficulties with e-bay or Gear for Sale. Felt that it was pointless to unknowingly feel my way through all that product.

Actually, I know so little about e-bay that I was surprised that the link led me to e-bay.uk. with the D 25 (I think) described in German. There are national e-bays? e.g. German, French, an EU Ebay?

In any case, everyone sensed exactly the kind sound I'd want and I appreciate your help. I'll just be patient and check in in Gear and on e-bay every couple days.

I think daycart was talking about the D-25...
Anyways, keep in mind that these are old players, which may have seen more than a decade of use and sometimes abuse, so today there can be large differences between different samples of the same model today. A D-33 or D-25 in good condition won't be particularly skippy.

I don't like the D-25 that much for classical. Players like the D-33 just mop the floor with it in terms of soundstage, resolution and tonal balance. As always YMMV, of course. It's powerful, yes, but so's the D-33. Other players I think you should look out for are D-99, D-35.

Yes, there are different national sites, but you can take part in any ebay auction worldwide with your account. Keep in mind the sometimes considerable shipping costs. Often sellers will limit an auction to their country only (look for "will ship to xxx only"). They usually will be ready to deal internationally anyway, but it's a very good idea to contact them and ask before you make a bid, this will save you trouble later.
