The Zana Deux seems like overkill for your setup. The DV (and a DAC upgrade) would probably work well for you. I have a Bottlehead and that is a very nice amp for the money .... if you have the skills or a DIY builder who will do the build for you.

Why is the paradesea dac by MHT labs not good enough for the Zana Deux? I thought it was a highly regarded(for its price range)dac.. Also what headphones do you all suggest for a type of amp like the Zana Deux. Thanks

I think 'not good' is not the intended meaning...

The zana scales very well with the source you use with it. So, think the poster is indicating that you might not get the full value of the Zana given how much it costs if you use your current source. Given your setup, you might get a comparable return of sound quality with a more affordable amp.

But as mentioned, the Zana would be something to get if you plan to grow into it at a later point.
It's my favorite single ended amp that I've ever owned.

I got to hear a Zana Deux for the second time this weekend, and while I think it's a truly terrific amp, for my money the Darkvoice 337 is actually every bit as good sounding, at least with the headphones I have used it with. Again, just my opinion.

Also, FWIW, at least for now the DV 337SE isn't really a commercial reality.

Thanks for clarifying my statement .... you interpreted my meaning exactly.

"Given your setup, you might get a comparable return of sound quality with a more affordable amp".

I too think the Zana ia an excellent amp. But, I like the SP Extreme just as well and that amp is half the price ($999) and twice the power. Moreover, the Extreme uses less expensive tubes and has more tube rolling options.

I also completely agree with this (since I own an Extreme as well).

Zana isnt cheap, yes, but you can easy stop your upgrades with it, however it does not make other amps as an bad option of course.

JVC X1000 sounds very good with Zana, as HD650, GS1000, RS1 ( from recstar24 impressions ), PS1 and I believe many others would to.

I decided to go with the singlpower extreme since I already have a lot of valves that will fit into it stock. Also if there is a warrenty issue it isnt dealt with half the world away. Thanks
