Hi everybody! Can someone help me which model should I choose: koss porta pro or akg k55? I've listened to koss - i like it. Also another question - will the px 100 be THAT MUCH better than these two?
Thx

I haven't heard the portapro but the low-end AKG is pretty terrible. The K44,55, and 66 are all about bass. Also the K110M.

The px100 is much better than the k55.

Koss PortaPro hands down. I tried the AKG K26 and K44 and I couldn't stand either one. If the K55 sounds anything like those two, you'd be upgrading very soon again.

The PX100 and PortaPro are one of those rivalries between headphones where you really can't go wrong either way. One of my friends keeps the PX100 as his primary portable because he prefers the more laid back Sennheiser signature that is noticeable, and I keep the PortaPro as my primary phone, because I prefer the more in-your-face, fun sound signature that it provides.

Thanks everyone. After reading all of this, i think I'll buy PortaPro, couse I like it - little easier treble is what I actually like... BTW I'm gonna listen PX100 tomorrow, so I can be sure portapro would be my final decision. Thanks again to everyone!

I own the PX100's and KSC35 (same drivers as the PortaPro). The PX100's have abit more bass & midbass, alittle dark sounding. While the KSC35's were overall balanced sounding, not dark at all.

Hello, I ended up with PX100. But not that I don't like PortaPro, i like it now also. When I was in store, they gave me some Diana's Krall album - that was first time a listened her. And all was powered from a tube amp. And I got direct comparison PortaPro vs PX100.
PX100's seems slightly detailed to me and also seems it has a wider stage - this testing has been done with bs2b foobar crossfeeder.
Also, afer this purchase I started to belive in burn-in. When I brought them home, pluged in and started Sultans Of Swing - hmm i didn't like the drum sound. It sounded more like that old drum machines rather then real drum, and it was to sharp. I like the detailness of PX100. I think it is more detailed then porta pro - thats why I bought them.

Any recommendations for a good sound card?

Soundcard of course depends on your budget, but the low-cost king is still a carefully configured Chaintech AV-710.

They've been discontinued for a while and are getting a little harder to find, but they're still out there. Like this store:

Chaintech AV710 VIA ENVY 24PT Sound Card Retail

Or ask on the computer audio forum, they may have a more recent recommendation.
