My father owns these two sets of speakers, but needs to get rid of one and offered me a choice. Which should I go for?

I'd appreciate any advice. The big difference is that one has a large port (air hole kind) on the side, while the other fires down.

Well, I'm not a big Logitech fan, but I'd go for the X-230 2.1 Speakers. The first set includes some kind of mp2 player dock. Personally, I'd rather put the dollars in a speaker system towards the speakers, so the second set (which doesnt include the dock) might net a better sound. Just a thought. The best thing to do is to listen to them first. Everyone has a different sound they like, and using your own ears is a powerful tool.

X-230 no doubt, I've use one before, its quite good

Rather than listening to advice from people online, I'd strongly suggest you listen to both pairs and select the one that sounds best to you.

They'll probably both sound similar. The 240 has plastic grills instead of the 230's mesh, while the 230 has a second driver in each enclosure. Either way, you'll get a musical sounding but horribly inaccurate and veiled set of speakers. I bought the 230s for my parents' computer.

230s also have a larger diamter woofer, which may translate into better bass response even though both are quoted to have the same FQ.
