Was using E4C before SE530, love shure's mids as everybody would agree. After hearing some other earphones with better highs, I wish SE530 has better treble (even some realatively cheap phones have much better highs). Now I wonder what I should get as an upgrade.

Tried Westone3, the U sound made me sold it instantly.

Heard UM3X is supposed 2 fix everything SE530 lacks, so I went and try it at a shop. While it has much better highs, the bass sounds a tad too big, the upper mids is also not bright enough, left me really wonder what out there is really fixing SE530's weakness and having its strength as well.

Ex SE530 owners, please lighten me up.

why dun look on the DAP or AMP ? It will help to push the SE530 to get better highs.
For me , only ER4S sound better to SE530 .

ER4S is a totally different sound and I wouldnt even think of recommending it to someone wanting an upgrade from the shures.

actually the UM3X are a decent upgrade IMO they sound similar but more refined. i'm thinking yo might have just needed to play with your fit a bit more.

one thing you might consider is sending your SE530 off to get put into a custom mold

either that or custom mold plus get UM to add a 4th driver for hbetter high extension.

of course depending on budget you could just get JH13 and be done with it

I agree the next step is an amp ... I have the 530s and will be dropping some cash on the pico slim amp designed for IEMS. Worth it IMHO.

sorry, but although I did find SE530 did sound better with an amp and custom tips, this is IMO NOTHING compared to the difference of full custom molds.

also you might like to cease recommending things you clearly havent heard.

I havent heard UM customs either. though I have heard SE530 with custom tips as well as UM3X and W3 with custom tips. this was quite a big step up, but getting full customs was a totally different league

I still own my SE530 and IMO the Ortofon e-Q7 are a recommendable upgrade if you want universals. While retaining the Shures' lovely mids, they have more highs extension and better defined bass, plus they are extremely transparent. The only aspect they fall a bit short in comparison is isolation.

I would say that if you can't find an IEM to upgrade to in all areas, try getting a new portable amp. I was thinking about upgrading IEMs from my PFE 112s but I think I will just get a new amp instead.

I can use the T4 with the 5th Gen shuffle and something else with my iPod Touch

Get a high capacity dap and use only lossless. That will give you a nice upgrade in sound quality if you aren't doing it already.

If you are, well I went JH13s and the difference is quite impressive. It is worth the price difference.

That sound like a great upgrade to me, get them custom and add another driver. Sounds like you like the mids and bass, and just want extended detailed highs. Its possible if you get the SE530 reshelled. The SE530 is already one of the top of the line universals. Although I did find it a nice upgrade when I got the TF-10 compared to the Shure's E5c. Sometimes I wish the TF-10 had the mids of the SE530, and kept everything else the same.

Would it help extending the highs with custom molds?

I'm sorry, maybe I should say I didnt like the recessed mids with huge bass and spiky highs of Westone 3.

Totally like to try it but I don't know where I could find such service locally in Singapore...

After some search I came across a thread comparing JH13, ES3X and UE11 by HeadphoneAddict. It's a good read and gave me a better picture of these IEMs, think it's time to go customs afterall. Got to find out more about JH13 and ES3X now. Thanks guys!
