Hello.
I've had my HD201s for a year now (I actually got them LAST Christmas), and don't get me wrong, they sound lovely, it's just that to get them sealed around my head correctly applies too much pressure. And if I let them out one more notch they're too loose. Also, it seems like I'm missing something on the low end.
Well, with Christmas again, it's time for new headphones. This time, though, my budget is a bit larger. I will give you all the info I possibly can.
Budget? $90. I can go a bit past this, but keep in mind also that these are gift cards. Could I sell them? No, I shall not invite the wrath of the gifter...long story.
What will be driving these new cans? An ASUS Xonar D1, which I love to death.
Amp? Sorry, not an option. They need to get along with my Xonar.
Musical genres? This poses a problem (maybe). I literally listen to everything BUT country music.
Source quality? I am rebuilding my music collection from scratch, it is currently ENTIRELY FLAC. I know MP3s will show up somewhere, but right now it's all lossless.
Gaming? Yes, but this isn't a particular priority, as I play a bunch of MMOs and just some RTS games where I don't care about sound as much.
What are your expectations? Something that doesn't put a lot of (or at least some level less than VICE GRIP) pressure on my ear/head interface would be nice. Bass should be more apparent than the HD201s, although I suspect that isn't a difficult thing to accomplish...
Did you have something in mind? This particular store has the Sennheiser HD205, EH150, and two JVCs that caught my eye, the HA-RX700 and HA-RX900 which is at the high end of my fiscal atmosphere. Concerning the JVCs, is the $25ish premium for the 900s worth it? Or will I be tickled pink with just the 700s if I so choose?
But those JVC's are huge... I don't care, portability is not an issue. These are for my home usage, and I don't do LAN parties. Comfort trumps size here.
Anything else? Besides the HD201s, these will be the only headphones I will own. My priorities are good (at least better) low-end, while maintaining mid- to high-range performance. Comfort is key: I wear headphones routinely, and if they're easier on my head than the HD201s, that would be awesome.
I hope I have provided enough to not look like a noob.
Merry Happy New Christmas Year, and thank you. <3
