Cost (in EU):
JVC HA-M5X Xtreme Xplosives: $48
Sennheiser HD 449: $96

Is it worth getting the 449?

Another option is to get the  JVC HAM5X now for $48, and get  ATH-M50 for $100 or so when I visit US in a few months.
I need some headphones in the meantime as my current ones are falling apart.

EDIT. Yet another option is the HAS4X for $32

Sound preferences, genres? While the HD449 are bassier than their HD448 predecessors, it's still nowhere near the bass quantities of the JVCs. Personally, I found the Senns to be more proficient throughout.

I am a basshead, like bass.
Genre: Electronica, rock, pop, some classical

Then the HD439 might be a little bit better for your choices. Also the HP700 which hits around M50 levels, but does better for electronic IMO.

But closer to your price racket, K518, XB500 are all nice basshead cans. Especially the XB500.

I want to get the XB500, I was all set to get it, but then it went out of stock (almost everywhere it seems).
I think I will just wait until it comes back in stock.

XB500 sites around the ears right (as opposed to on the ears)?

By the HP700 you mean the Denon HP 700?

I wish the earpads to sit around my ears.

The XB500 sit on the ear, but the pads are so large that they essentially are over-ear, they cover the entire ear and more. The HP700s are over-ears.

For me the XB500 sits around the ear, the pads had shaped up so that it was no longer round but was the shape of my ear after a little while.

Are you at all worried about comfort? the JVCs hurt your ears after awhile. Also, the JVCs are pretty great with bass but painfully mediocre everywhere else. Also, the pads do not sit around the ears
