Which headphone again...

I've called the 3 and only 3 headphone distributors in Malaysia and all they have is these.

Beyer DT231 ($50) Prices in US$
HD490 ($65)
HD500 ($90)
HD570 ($115)

No HD497 and V6s.

I would be using driving it using soundcard(santa cruz) for most of the time and I dont have an amp.

I would go with either the Beyers or the HD500s.

Checking out http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?...&subTopicID=26 for Headroom's comments on each one wouldn't be a bad idea.

Not much of a choice.
Can't you check some online stores that would ship to Malaysia.
Otherwize, the Beyers or HD570 are good cans.

I have checked with my local distributors for Beyer and Sennheiser for DT250-80 and HD497. They said HD497 has been discontinued since they dont have it in their catalog mailed in by Sennheiser. On the other hand, they said they can specialy order the 250-80s but it would cost me bout $200. My budget stood at $120.

Headroom doesnt ship to Malaysia(confirmed by Todd). Me too wasnt too interested paying half of the $120 for S&H alone.

HD497, discontinued?! Are these guys sane. They're the latest model from Sennheiser. Unfortunately we have to conclude that the dealers in your area suck.

Do they have the Sennheiser HD 495? They can be driven from a soundcard and sound very nice.

They dont have the HD495/497 as well. 490, 500, 570 and probably some other model. May be I could give Philips a call and try my luck for HP890 but its more likely they dun have it. My local distributors (except for beyer distributor) doesnt know a heck about headphone. They perceive in a very chinese style, "Good thing dont come cheap, Cheap thing for sure aint good".

I wonder why so many forumers dislike the 570s and 500s.

Jan's prices (www.meier-audio.com) include world-wide shipping. I believe he can also get models from AKG, Sennheiser, and Beyerdynamic that are not listed on his website. I would send him an e-mail before settling on something like the HD570.

I've been to Jan Meier site and he has all those higher end model from Senn and Beyer. The only 2 that would fit my use (driving using soundcard) is probably the DT250-80 and the much controversial HP890.
