Depending on your budget, I would settle for the SR60, the SR225 or the RS1.

SR60 - $69 USD
SR225 - $195 USD
RS1 - $695 USD

All these phones can be had for much cheaper buying used. The SR60s go for about $45-$55 used, the SR225 go for about $150-$160 used, and the RS1 go for about $500-$550 used.

X2 on this sentiment, although I have never heard the GS1000. IMHO, never buy a pair of Grado RS-1s new if a trusted head-fier is selling a well cared for used set. They come up on the FS boards with some regularity. You'll save lots of $$$ and get the same sonic benefit. I got mine used and have no regrets!

There's a lot of information about RS-1 versions in this thread.

When people say "vintage," they usually mean these:

Distinguishing features:

1. Brown leather headband.
2. Gold L/R lettering.
3. Wooden Box.

Offtopic, but I've always wondered why RS-1's use square pegs in a round hole. Anyone?

who are the first gen? and sec gen box?
