Hey everyone,

I'm going to be buying the HD650 very soon, but ofcourse, I need a proper amp for it first!

I've researched on these forums and it seems the Darkvoice sries is very popular with the HD650. This is my first foray into the tube world, so I'm pretty clueless.

I'm confused about which Darkvoice to buy. Can you guys offer me any suggestions? I don't even get if 332 is superior to the 337 because I couldn't find any website except the eBay seller page.

Please advise.

Both the 332 and 337 are out of production but they can still be found for sale in dwindling numbers.

The DV series are a great synergistic match for the HD650's .....I'd like to try a 337 myself but can't afford to...what's your planned source for the amp and what is your budget ?

The 337 can be had for around 540US (not including shipping) which is a screaming bargain. The newer versions are quite a bit more expensive but have also been upgraded by a fair margin. The 3322 and 337SE 336SE are the latest versions of the line up. The Chinese earthquake over the summer really threw a monkey wrench into their production schedules for the new versions and put a halt to the supply of the older designs while they assessed the damage to the factory.

Audiophile china seems to have 337 stock and I think some 332's as well.

The new 336SE is quite good with the Senns as well and is widely available from a few vendors ......IIRC.

All three models go well with the HD650's.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried finding the 332 on ebay UK but failed.

Anyway, it seems I'll end up buying the 336SE, because the 337 is out of budget (approx. £200) and I can't find the 332 - though i did spot a nice deal at the FS section but the seller had found a buyer.

Is the 336SE a good amp for the HD650? I mean to use them for Rock primarily and have read that the 332 + HD650 combo is great for Rock, I hope the same is true for the 336SE + HD650 combo!

My source is just my Macbook at the moment, I'm buying the HD650 as well so I can't afford a DAC right now. 6 months down the line, I will definitely be acquiring one. I realize its importance but simply have no money at moment.

The 336SE is a fine amp .....check out the tube rolling thread for it for some choice NOS glass....If I had the extra coin on hand I'd be hard pressed to decide between the old 337 and the new LD MK VI....

The 332 however is widely considered a very good amp with most of the qualities of the 337 but at half the cost (the 337 used to cost 725US or thereabouts).

You'll love the 336SE.

The 332 is out of production, but AFAIK, the 337 is still manufactured and sold, unless I missed some new announcement.

The 337SE is not a replacement to the 337, just a built-to-order souped up version with better components and a different tube.

You can check the prices at audiophilechina, one of the head-fi sponsors, they are a bit cheaper than ebay.

I'm right now using DV336se. No regrets. Love it with my Senn HD600. Yet to tube rolling though.

Have any of you had to pay custom or VAT for the DV, since we're all importing from China.

Do you suppose the seller will be willing to declare the value at around $100?

With some sellers, like the big internet shops, VAT etc has to be paid, but other sellers bypass VAT by marking the package as "sample" or "gift". Jasmine_Chine at E-Bay is one of the latter. I've bought 2 DVs from him and he's very good to deal with.

Just don't forget with the microsoft 30% cashback, you can get very good deal on these darkvoice on eBay. I got mine dv337 two weeks ago, the cash back totally covered the shipping cost.

Don't forget the 336i, from what I understand it's not very different from the current 336se and can be found for a good price at Jasmine's. Alexander at Jasmine offered me a discount on one without even me asking. I am expecting delivery this week (HD580 here).

Second that. Jasmine_Chine is great to deal with. Super fast shipping, and I had a really nice surprise when I received my amp
