I've been a huge 600 fan since starting this hobby about 6 years ago. I love the frequency balance (especially the natural/realistic mids & highs), the clarity, the instrument separation. But I need something closed for use in bed that won't bother my wife or young daughter. Recommendations in the same approx price range, please? (~$300)

I will admit that, despite my deep & enduring love for the 600, I do wish they had a bit more low end (but I don't mind using a little EQ). So feel free to recommend things with more bass than the 600.

Something made me think the Meze 99 Classics would be a good bet, but the folks in the main impressions thread don't think so. I'm kinda thinking I'll give them a go anyway though.

Thanks!

Sennheiser HD380 Pro or Westone W20

For the HD600:
I. EQ
1. 35hz, Low Shelf, Q1.0, +4dB
2. 1500hz, High Shelf, Q1.0, -2dB

II. Leather wall hybrid earpads; HM5 earpads can mount onto the plastic frame but need some tripping so they can snap back into the cup.

For the non-open alternative
III. Westone W20 with Comply earpads

IV. HD380 with thicker, denser leather pads

Yes the Meze 99’s are not the closed back version of the 600’s by any stretch and I find them a bit closer to the 650’s response but with definitely more bass . While they are not detail monsters they still de fairly well but more of a relaxed high end and fun low end without losing the nice mids.

Ok, great. Thanks.

Like i said, I'm probably still going to get a pair of 99Cs, because I'm really intrigued. But I'll give up on the idea that they'll be anything like the 600s.

So any other 600 fans have more suggestions?

DT 150 comes to my mind. They sound very similar to the HD 6XX series. The sound is liquid and lush. I own both.
