Recently I have become more and more interested in the AKG lines. One thing that bugs me is that many of their products are very close to each other, K501, K601, K701, Q701, K702, K202 anni and you name it. If budget is not an issue the K812 is clear choice. I have about $200-300 for the AKG and have K702 as favorite now but not very sure if that's the best choice.

Now I have Senn HD650 with NuForce. And my future (hope it won't be too far in the future) plan is to have HD800 and T1, one set of STAX (507 or better), and one decent set of Planar magnet. I listen to almost all kinds of music but classical music are my favorite.

note the q701 and k701 have these weird bumps on their headband that is quite annoying. had the q701 and the sound quality was quite nice if you are not a basshead, but the comfort ended up being a deal breaker for me. I would personally consider the k612 pro or the k712 instead for an akg.

Thank you. I have made up mind to get K712. The enhanced performance at bass and comfort are really nicer than the K702.

I just placed order of K712. $338 wasn't bad at all.

I have a 10 year old low end Onkyo receiver which still works good. I also have a desktop headphone amp NuForce Icon HDP. I don't know if that's enough to work for the K712. If anybody happens to have this amp with AKG please post your experience. I will not buy any amp for the K712 in the near future in order to save for the other expensive ones.
