I am a newbie!
redface.gif

after reading intensively on the forum and lots of headphones testing I decided to buy the sennheiser HD580. I odered from amazon.com for $160 + $10 two days shipping on sept 20th (weekend). I was abroad when I ordered it... ( mistake #1 ?)

I tracked the package and it said that the item was delivered on the 24th and left in front of my door!

I was worried... I thought they need a signature to deliver ... I guess it depends on the merchant.

My roomate got home on 25th night and he didn't see a package.
I got home on the from abroad 26th, I asked everyone including my neighbors, none of them have any idea where it is. I live in an apartment building, and my door is directly in front of the elevator, close to the building entrance. it's possible that someone was tempted to keep the item for him/her self.

It has been a very save place to live so far, I hope I am wrong about theft theory

I called UPS asking for advice, they told me to call amazon.com, they amazon.com will contact UPS back. I am sad cause now i have to wait indefinetly before i can listen to heaphone. I paid by debit card (mistake #2)

So far the amazon respond has been positive, I hope it will be resolved soon.

To add insult to the injury, the refurbished ipod (3rd, 15Gb, PC) that I just recieved refused to work! ...Any help is greatly appreciated

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that, that sucks. It honestly sounds like someone's pinched them though, if UPS say it was left outside your door it probably was, but they really shouldn't have just left it outside your door. They should have either sent them back to Amazon.com or kept them at a local UPS building. Anyway, I hope everything works out and you don't have to buy them again

adi,

you may want to check the front office (if you have one). in my apartment complex UPS always delivers to the apartment manager front office.

I'm waiting for the Sony MDR-CD2000's that I had ordered from Etronics. That package is at the UPS warehouse, awaiting delivery.
Unfortunately, I will be at work at the time that they'll deliver the package.

adi,

you have a good case here as they are not supposed to leave a package at your doorstep .
they should have brought it back to their warehouse and left you a notice on what to do next.

After confirming it's not in the apartment office or any of your neighbors for safe keeping, call UPS and explain the situation. If this doesn't help, call your credit card company and dispute the charges until either Amazon or UPS gives you a call.

Everyone (ZeroFX, usc goose, wallijonn, Eagle_Driver, screwdriver, flipzter)

, thank you for the support!.
The manager office is not in this building, and I have checked with just everyone who might have taken the package.
I usualy don't have problem with package left in front of the door, it's a save small town, but ... yeah... things like this happens

I am communicating with amazon.com now to find out how I can get the replacement. Unfortunatelly I paid with my debit card, so I hope things work out.

Thanks much!

What I usually do in that situation (which happens all the time with my class and work schedule) is to simply have them hold it at the local processing location for you to pick up. That way, you can simply grab it before or after work, or perhaps on your lunch break. That's what I might have to do with my Music Hall CD25 when it gets here on Monday.

It seems evry odd to me that they just dropped it off at your location. Maybe that's just something they do with Amazon orders or something, but I've never had any UPS package just left at my door, no matter what shipping method is used (ground, 3-day, whatever).

Strange. Good luck, hopefully Amazon or UPS will be generous and offer a replacement. Pretty sure all UPS packages automatically come with $300 insurance (??) but I don't know if that covers theft as well as damage.

Hello strohmie,
UPS never left a package I purchased from BHphoto, so I do believe that it's the amazon thing. I really hope that UPS insures their shipments. Thank you,

I always order from Amazon. In fact, I bought my senn590 from one of their merchants, J&R music and computer world. UPS came by our house twice but nobody was home, so they rescheduled their delivery for the thrid time until someone was there to sign for the package.

Edit: I also had a book delivered to the Philippines which didn't arrive. I emailed them, and after checking, they sent another copy again. No extra charge, no questions asked.

My past shopping experience with Amazon has been pleasant as well actually ...

I just had an email from them that the replacement has been sent with "One day delivery", less than 48 hours since I send the claim email. .. wow... got to say I am impressed
eek.gif
, I was expecting lots of beaurocracy.

Thanks for all the supports I received.

now... lets see how apple store handle the "potentially defective refurbished 15Gb 3rd generation Ipod" I just got. http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...088#post520088

Sorry to hear about your incident.

Unfortunately, it's neither Amazon nor UPS per se that is at fault. It's the driver 99.5% of the time.

I've had UPS, FedEx and Airborne Express do a variety of different things over the years. Many times, they just leave it at my door even when I'm inside! No knock, nothing. (I don't listen when I'm expecting a package so I can hear just fine.)

I've had a FedEx delivery where it was left at the door and I am certain that the delivery person signed the signature release (some scrawl that wasn't even supposed to be my name).

I've had FedEx try to deliver but I wasn't home so they took the package away. The following day when I'm at home, they don't even bother to come to my door and deliver it to the manager's office. Duh... why didn't you deliver the package there when I wasn't home the previous day?

This past Friday, I had 3 packages arrive by UPS. No problem. The package through Airborne Express was left at my door and I was home. I wasn't listening to anything so I would have heard a knock on the door. I found out that it was delivered when I just happened to check the tracking info for that package and it said "left at door".

The current UPS and FedEx delivery people for my area are quite good. The UPS person will deliver to the manager's office if I am not home. The FedEx person will do the same unless the package has a high declared value. In those cases, he takes the package back and tries again the following day.

EDIT: Oh yeah, USPS always tries to deliver to my door if it needs a signature otherwise it's delivered to the manager's office. Never had a package left at the door by them.

I agree Wilson, the UPS and FEDEX drivers in my area are good people. I am not upset to UPS anymore, I shouldn't have put that tittle on this post.
I never had problem with package left in front door either untill now which is a shame.
But I am very upset to whoever took my package! I'll tell the manager first thing on Monday to report the theft.

The airborn express left my $800 Digital camera in front on my door the other day when I was home. but it is different story and I got the package so I guess that's alright
