Hey guys and gals

I am looking at DAC projects, and one of my requirements is a toslink input. From my initial reading, it seems like all you need is to just get a toslink in "thingy" (the receptacle) and give it 5 volts, and connect it where you would normally connect S/PDIF. First of all, is it that easy? Second, where does one get the receptacle and any other necessary hardware for adapting a DAC for toslink?

A quick search of the more common vendors didn't yield anything

That sounds about right

You need a TORX-type optical receiver for the input (e.g. TORX173 or -179). Do a search on digikey and it should pop right up

Apart from that, a handful of passive components and a 5V supply. Depending on the DAC you need to modify the input section a bit (= remove the 75 Ohm input resistor), but if you download the datasheet for the optical module and for the input receiver, it should be a bit clearer. Which DAC-projects are you looking at?

Found it! It was listed under TORX179
