About two years ago I built my first amplifier and purchased my first halfway decent headphones - the PPA v2 solid state amplifier and the Grado SR225's. I enjoyed the sound, rock music especially, but I was looking for headphones which were more comfortable in roughly the same price range so I acquired some Beyer DT880's. I then upgraded my sound card on my PC to an Auzentech X-Fi Forte, which was a major improvement over my old Audigy 2. The only gripe that I have with the X-Fi is that under high CPU load I can hear quite a bit of noise, but it is mostly drowned out when I play a game or listen to music. I'm not sure if it's an issue related to the sound card itself, or if it is a hardware issue with my motherboard.
I am interested in building a vacuum tube amplifier, but I have no idea where to start. I listen to a lot of electronic, jazz, and classical music. I also watch Blu-ray movies on my PC, and play PC games with 3D audio. Are there any tube amp kits on the market in the $300 ballpark?
