I have been reading the posts on this forum about highly detailed headphones and the Beyerdynamic DT48 E in particular. It seems that several people really seem to like them. Yet, when I try to find an extensive review of these headphones, I can't seem to find any. Does anyone have a link to a thorough review?

As the thread said they are supposed to be one of the most underappreciated headphone. So there aren't that many people owning them making it hard to get many reviews

But they can be found for cheap and probably resold for the same price which is why I ll try to get mine soon as well.

50 years in production, and no review to be found

.
But it is a studio headphone and the sheer fact, that it has been in production for 50 years, must meen, that it actually has some outstanding qualities. I would like to hear it myself, but since it is virtually impossible to listen to anywhere, I would have to buy a new pair. Have not really decided yet, if I want to do that.

Yes, I have read all of the threads on Head-Fi. Though they are informative, they spark my curiosity just enough to search for other reviews and they just seem to be non-existent. The reviews on head-fi are more cursory than exhaustive. I would love to read a proper review with A-B tests etc. Anyone willing to take this on?

Wmcnamus is planning an extensive review towards the middle/end of the month, and he has an amazing collection of phones - I, like you, can't wait to hear what he has to say

I've been meaning to get around to a shootout, but have been pulled down with work, family, friends, and other projects. But I completely agree that there should be an extensive review and comparison of the DT48. The first dynamic stereo headphone deserves nothing less and also deserves to be a top consideration for anyone who loves acoustics and vocals.

By the way, there will be another DT48 owner by about Wednesday next week.

If he doesn't speak up here, I'll start bugging him!

Speaking of projects, this is what's been eating my spare time:

The amp has taken longer than expected, but it has been documented, photographed and written up along the way. When I'm done, I'm going to put that all together into a build guide for making a point-to-point tube amp. We've got build guides for PCB amps, but not a point-to-point amp.

It's worth pointing out that the stock cable is kinda short, and that there's some extreme clamping going on. My head will usually hurt after using these for several hours. The isolation is good though, and the leakage is minimal. And as others have mentioned, the build quality is extremely solid. They are quite heavy as a result though.

I listened to these, a pair of Denon AH-D5000 and some DX1000 one weekend, and all I can say is that these sound different. They are well suited for acoustic and classical music, but overall, I found them to be a bit cold and boring.

^^^ Thanks, I already read that thread. It seems strange that this would be the only detailed thread about these headphones considering that they are supposed to be so good.

Because broadcasters, recording engineers, & DR's don't post reviews On items they seem as a instrument for work & not pleasure...

The clamping goes away after time.. I used to be able to wear them only 2 hrs. Now I can where them 4 hrs no problem.. & I have the 48a's which uses rubber banding.. Yes, they are cold & boring.. Would do you expect a monitor headphone with a flat response to sound like? But it does some things so well I can easily ignore it.

[size=small]Hey!, I like cold and "boring!" High resolution can be fun when done right.
