I'm just curious, where do you get your cd's, and how much do you pay for them?

[dit] Oh, also, how many cd's do you buy?

amazon.com, hbdirect.com, arkivmusic.com ... and, once in a while, if I need a pop album, Border's (brick-not-click)

Some (i.e., Naxos) lables are $6, most are in the 12--16 range, and some are >$20/disc.

I buy about 20-30 / month. And yes, the girlfriend gets mad when I buy more but still have some from a previous binge still in the wrapper, not listened to yet.

Bestbuy.com is suprisingly good on everything except classical and they don't charge for shipping. I've ordered several times from them and never a problem. Pretty quick at filling orders too.

hope that helps,
Scott

20-30 a month

I feel quilty if I buy more than two a month. Usually it's less. I just don't have that much money to spend. If I find high quality mp3's they'll just have to do untill I can buy the CD. I can get a lot of music having broadband internet but I hate it when you hear those artifacts that mp3 has.
But I rather have mp3 music then no music. I just have to wait a bit till I can afford the album. Cause I usually end up buying the stuff I really like.

where I buy it.
Bol.com
Amazon -> which ever country is cheapest. Mostly from France but if the US + shipping is cheaper I order there.

Not such a store loyalist when it comes to purchasing music. That is mainly because I cannot get all the music I want from one source. I prefer to patronize my local, independent shops. After that, it is a toss-up between big, chain stores and on-line purchases, with the nod going to B&M stores for the 'immediate gratification' factor. I hate paying postage for one CD or DVD, so I tend to wait until I have several items I want before ordering online, so that happens less often (I am an impatient chap). Also, UPS is a PITA for home deliveries.

In the past year I have 'discovered' used CD stores (I was such a snob b4). This gives another nod to my local, independent's since they usually have used CD departments too. I find I can triple my music budget, and I also will tend to experiment more when a CD is only $2-$7 rather than $12-$18. It may be a bit more random, but it is fun, and I've found some gems. Prices of many new readbook CD's have come down alot lately though, so that is becoming less of a big factor.

Since coming here, and discovering the Music forum (awesome!), I tend to average about four CD's a month lately. And that barely scratches the surface of what I want to get. But then again, I really couldn't listen to much more and really appreciate it. So much music, so little time. Thanks guys!

AllDirect.com Without question the best I have found overall. Additionally, I've posted here at length on my research and buying system. You might find some more answers in those posts.

Oh yeah, price. In my last batch of nine CDs from AllDirect, I paid from $6.65 to $23.20 (Holland import). Average is under $10.

USED ROCK CDS
half.com

USED CLASSICAL CDS
amazon.com

NEW ROCK & CLASSICAL CDS
alldirect.com

NEW DARK METAL CDS
theendrecords.com

We discussed here recently if you are just starting and need all the basic stuff BMG record club can be cost effective.

Also alldirect.com has the best prices on new classical CDs, but you need to purchase through yahoo music which has good advanced classical music search, alldirect site has very bad search feature for classical but they are there.

If like auctions you can get used CDs through EBAY

Is this an understatement or what? I wind up getting the classical CD product screen from Amazon in a separate window while I try to search composer, artist, conductor, musical organization, label, label # and/or date of release until I find where AllDirect has "hidden" it, but the prices and availability (and free shipping over $99) make it worth it. BTW, AllDirect has shipped my last few FedEx with an embedded tracking link in the confirmation e-mail. Sweet!

Amazon's classical search feature is pretty bad, too. E.g., If I want to see what complete recordings of Verdi's "Aida" are available, it returns thousands of discs that merely have an aria or some other snippet. It offers no way to exclude words...haven't they heard of boolean operators over there?

picked up a ton of CDs for about 8 dollars a piece at warehouse's closing event. A bunch of the warehouse stores are going out of business and they dropped the prices on all CDs.

So far, the vast majority of any music I have purchased on the web has been through infrarot.de. The prices are usually lower than most local stores and I have gotten some really great deals from them. I choose the "cheap" shipping method so it takes 4 to 6 weeks for stuff to arrive here all the way from Germany. Their customer service is also very good and whenever I am willing to wait a while to get the music I want I'll order it through them.

For local sources, Independent Records, Twist&Shout, and Cheapo Discs are my favorite places to shop. They also have good customer service and are able to order a lot of stuff in.

nowadays I mostly buy from actual stores, y'know listen through a couple songs first, then running out anxious to hear it all. much more fun. besides, I can find most new CDs for 17 euros (about 17$) and they have most of what I'm interested in. online is just as expensive, and usually more cause of shipping.

this month has been extra cool: bought 5 CDs, might get a couple more too (birthdays rule!). usually I tell myself to buy just one full-price CD, and end up buying 2 or 3. they're expensive man!

I just tried them, and much to my amazement they had this , which I have never seen anywhere else for sale. And a very good price, too.

Unfortuneatly their prices on Coil cds are waaaay out of line.
