How low the voltage has to go for Meta to clip? I heard a few clips and started thinking maybe I should just buy an AC so I have no worry about it clips again. Also, how much voltage can my meta 42 take? A regulated AC at $50 is way out of my price range...so is there a cheaper option out there?

It would depend greatly on your setup and headphones (and volume you like to listen at). With my AD8620 and DT770 HPs, I had a battery at 7.5V without clipping. I didn't bother testing below that because I use two 9-V in series in mine.
