Headphoneus Supremus
I posted this in another thread and then realised that I'm surely not the only person who has found that there are great songs that have been let down by bad mixes.
One that grates on me is Van Halen's Panama. What's with the soundstage on that. The drums are up front, David Lee Roth sounds like he's singing from behind the drum riser, Bass is centre stage (somewhere) and Eddie is at the very front, but waaaaay off to the left.
What were they thinking? Imagine the conversation during the mix down,
"Put Eddie's guitar off to the left"
"Further"
"Further"
"Further"
"That's it. It sounds like he's out in the carpark - perfect"
What songs do you find are seriously flawed in their production.
