This might sound like a completely stupid question... but what I'd like to know is, out of the few under-$1000 tube amps that Headroom sells, which would have properties close to a RKV?

I'd like to audition a tube amp before I sell Cosmic... but nobody out there has any return policies like that of Headroom...

The only one I really see is the Wheatfield HA-1... at $529.. everything else that's tubed is way out there..

But if they'd have properties closer to that of an RKV, please, let me know.. I'll see if they'll let me audition the sucker..

Anyhow, thanks for any ideas!

The only one similar they sell will cost you about four times more, just to try, the Ear-HP4, the HA-1 is not reported to be on the same league of the RKV and is also designed for high impedance cans but you will not have the impedancer to match with low impendace cans...with the HD600 and HD580 it was reviewed to be a decent match, but nothing like the RKV, ask servinginecuador or joelongwood that recently got one....

I'm [thisclose] to buying a RKV ... but there's been no interest in my Cosmic.. =)

And per Kelly's comments, as I've never heard a tube amp before, I really don't know whether or not I'll like how a tube sounds...

For the most part, I'm happy with my Cosmic... it's only the minor issue about the damn interconnects that I kick myself about every time... I wish I'd waited a bit longer and found out more about which interconnects worked and which ones didn't before I bought it..

I might think about modding my CE775 before worrying about the cables, though ...

For the most part, I've been interested in getting into tubes for a while now.. but haven't had the energy or the money to drop on it.. [and I still don't.

] But I've been reading up on th RKV for a while now, and in addition to doug's review a few days ago of the RKV, HD600/Cardas and CD3000, I want to see how my equipment sounds on a tube to see whether or not I like it..

Which is why I'd like to find a retailer such as Headroom that will let me audition equipment..

I've got a CD3000 on the way from Wild West Electronics.. so at least I can put the HD600/CD3000 argument to rest for myself..

[Wild West Electronics has a 30-day full money back guarantee..]
