I swear this thing is gonna drive me a up a wall.
What a pice of crap!
Anyways, now my IPOD (after re-formatting it and restoring it) it wont let me upload any more than about 3gbs of music (its a 20gb).
It will start to upload, then after about 5 songs it will stop, start this clicking and buzzing and then clicking then buzzing thing-and then an alert box comes up that says:

"The ipod cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found".
After that, I try to eject the ipod but I cant b/c the screen is frozen.

Any clue what the problem is?

On the computer screen.

Which OS are you using and which OS did you use to format the ipod ... ?

Windows; I right clicked on the Ipod icon under "My Computer" and went straight to "format".

You formatted it as a hard drive, not an iPod. Open iTunes, click on Restore to Factory settings.

See ya

Now im confused.
Whats the diff between Restoring and Formatting?
Ive already restored the ipod using itunes before.
As I wrote in my original post, it was reformatted as a hard drive and then restored in itunes.
Ill try reformating again but im not sure that will do anything.

EDIT: Just finished restoring it and reconnected it to my computer.
First of all, how do I turn automatic syncing off?
I clicked on the Music and Podcast tabs and unclicked "sync music".
Now, when I attach my IPOD to my computer it recognizes it and then automatically ejects it???
Im going nuts here-i didnt even have this problem before...what the heck is going on?

When formatting, my guess is that you formatted the ipod with the wrong filesystem (FAT16 instead of FAT32 possibly?).

When formatting the ipod your're deleting everything, including essential files and folders used by the ipod operating system. Restoring on the other hand probably just deletes all the music and returns all settings to default.

Then how and where can I choose between 16 and 32?
EDIT-scratch that-I found it.
But my iTunes keeps kicking off my ipod!
Every time I attach it to my computer it registers that its connected, but then it ejects it.
I have no time to even format it now, b/c "my computer" doesnt even show its there.
I am so frustrated with this thing-if anybody can help and walk me through the steps in fixing this thing it would be greatly apprecaited.
Thnx.

Does itunes automatically load up when you connect the ipod? In that case you'll have to disable the auto-loading of itunes ... unfortunately that option only seems to be available after the ipod is connected (click the ipod icon on the left hand column). Does the ipod stay connected long enough to do that?

If not, you may have to disable the "ipodservice.exe" service (run > type in "services.msc") which should stop itunes from loading automatically. After that, see if you can reformat the ipod using the FAT32 filesystem via windows explorer.

I'm not sure it was a good idea formatting the ipod in the first place, lol. You may have deleted some essential opertating stuff!

The restore function in iTunes should restore the iPod to its factory state, so even if he had deleted something essential, it should have been restored by iTunes.

@kwitel, have you tried using a different cable?
