What's with ppl taking out the price after an item is sold?

I don't know, some people find the price to be something private between the seller and the buyer. It's their right to keep/make it that way.

However:

Both the buyer and seller have a right to privacy. I wouldn't have a problem with leaving the price posted in the original ad, but if the buyer or the seller preferred that it be pulled I would defer to their right to privacy.

In theory the price listed is simply an asking price. In practice, based strictly on my limited time and experience here, most head-fiers seem to think what they post is all ready a rock bottom price and don't seem willing to budge. I have paid asking price when it is clearly fair. But I have also walked from many potential deals when the asking price was too much for me, and there was either no movement or little movement on the sellers part. Just as I have when the item wasn't really what I was looking for. So in reality the asking price becomes the barometer of what the market is for that particular item in what ever condition it is described.

Sure would be nice if every ad left the asking price(s) in, but it shouldn't be required.

Unfortunately it is one thing here that really just doesn't make sense. It seems like there is a rather large consensus to at least have the original price that was *asked* visible. No one knows if that was the final price, but at least it can help guide the market.

But whatever, at the end of the day head-fi is one of the best online communities I have come by even with its "flaws".

If it's such a large consensus why isn't the majority of people doing it

There is nothing preventing them. The real reason is we do it mainly to piss you off

no does not bother me, what is more vexing to me is people whom don't use the search tool and must make another thread when there are tons of research on the topic already... and then having to sift through multiple useless threads when actually searching this site or others.

This topic has been killed here with multiple threads; Headfi is not an open pay for service site to sell goods. It is a forum based service offered instead for free for the benefit of members. Try to search google, search the 'Bay, 'Gon..or other, just search, search, search you shall find.

The price on any given day for an item is what the buyer is willing to pay for it and what the seller is prepared to sell it for..and is a private transaction, more or less. I find that sending PM to any member typically works well too.

I know this may not seems very smart, but if you need to know the correct price to buy/ sell an item at, pm me or another member. Most of the people on here are going to help you out. I myself know a lot of the used market prices myself, and would be glad to help out anyone in this situation.

Perhaps one of you grizzled and world-weary hs's would see fit to compile a Frequently Threaded Issues (ala FAQ) list for the uninitiated to consult in order to avoid at least some of the repitition.

Priceless. Honestly, loved it.

It is a peeve of mine also, but hey, it's the prerogative of the buyer/seller.

People do it becuase it is the common practice of updating the thread as sold
wink.gif
. I bet if you asked those who do remove the prices, that they could not give you a real reason besides "it's the privacy of the buyer/seller".

For everyone else, I for one could care less how many times these or any other threads come up, just pass over them if your tired of them. lol

After the transaction is completed that price means absolutely nothing for the rest of the mortals, and most of the times the final price is not even close to the one listed, as the seller and the buyer agree on different terms, and people do it for privacy purposes...

Also keep in mind that the price of a used item, is a function of a lot of aspects of the market, and many of them could change from one day to the next...Availability, physical condition, desire of the buyer to have it, confidence on the seller, etc...

All I can think of when reading this is how nicely it applies to Eliot Spitzer.

Also, just to throw this out there.

People(at least not me) are not complaining about not stating the final selling price. The *original* price that was stated *should* alone help keep the market from fluctuating as much as it does and give people a chance to figure out what is a good or bad deal.
