What's the skinny on the Archos Gmini400?

Question - most of my JPEG's are in the order of 3 to 4 MB - is that a problem with resizing on the H320? (I own the Canon PowerShot G6, and it's a 7.1 MP cam! - large files, naturally)

I do rather like the "business" look the H320 has........

This program may do the trick for resizing those files. http://www.misticriver.net/photos/di...album=12&pos=0
I haven't tried this program as I hardly use the picture viewing feature. Try this program, and see, how it works. Also check if you can change the pictures resolution to 220x 176. If this programs works well, it would be a perfect software to use with the H320. This program is recommended at misticriver.net.
If the program can resize this pictures to the right resolution to a good file size, the results should be great.

Note: If you get the US version of the H320, USB on the go is not an feature of the US version.

You may want to check these thread.

This whole thing of resizing images is a total pain in the arse; what if I needed to transfer these images back to my PC, someday? No, if I have to go through such hoops with any DAP that has photo storage, I'll pass.

How about the iPod Photo? I know it's pricey.

I would rather get the archos, or the iRiver. The ipod however is the easiest to use. If I am right, the ipod also needs to resize the pictures. The nice thing is that the pictures are resized as they are transfered to the ipod, which means that you won't have to go into special complicated software (I am not 100% sure about this). My friend has one, and is pretty nice, but like I said I prefer the iRiver, and the Archos, but for pictures alone the ipod photo is better. The photo also has a video out so you can display them on a TV, which in my opinion is pretty nice. If you are willing to resize them I still think the iriver, and the archos are better choices, especially considering their screens are of higher quality(Iriver and Archos around 260K colors/ the photo only around 65K colors).

Remember that you don't really have to resize the pictures though. The thing is that using the bigger files in the iriver, means longer picture loading, which is why resizing is recommended.

That sounds encouraging. I see the 30 GB iPod Photo runs a bit more than the Gmini400. I simply have to choose either a DAP or that Nikon Coolwalker, the latter not being an audio device but ideally suited for my purposes. (I have 7 MiniDisc units so I really can't say I need yet another portable audio device!!)

I edited my last post. I added more info. I don't want to write all over again (I am talking about my last post). I am too lazy to write it all over again.

I wouldn't mind waiting a bit for my large image files to load, as long as they fit the screen with whatever device I was to purchase. I see the Gmini's battery life is a not-so-great 10 hours. Pooh!

The Coolwalker looks more and more like what I really need, as DAP's have obvious compromises for image presentaton/storage.

Possibly, although I think that with my music encoded at APS there would be very little difference when compared to a 192vbr OGG. My point was just that I would rather have the sound that I enjoy currently with slightly larger files than if OGG and much greater compatability. Quote:

To clarify: I was saying that the archos av320 is a great deal now that it has been discontinued and the price has been lowered.

I agree. Those archos players are now a great deal, especially since they are some of the bestvideo players on the market. I misunderstood (I thought you meant the iRiver was being discontinued).

Cool, I figured that we were just saying the same things and getting wires crossed.

It also comes equiped with a camera. I don't know how good this olympus player is, but it seems very good for pictures.

Check out that product description. The price is steep though.

For the love of God I hope NOone buys this POS

My review of the m:robe 500i

The gmini400 is an awesome player. Between the h320 and the gmini I will take the archos every time (yes have used both extensively)...the CF slot really does it for me.

Yes, that CF slot seems to be beckoning me.

Still have to toss this one around, as the iPod Photo is another candidate in the DAP sweepstakes.
