I am just using the standards. Perhaps you are right and the standards need to be rethought. However, for the most part, at least 85% of the time, those numbers hold up.

I really think we're putting too much value into these categories. Everyone's are different. Too me, budget <$400, midrange is <1250, and high end is above. I'm sure that as I get older, these will change.

I think my AMC 8b is a cheap CD player. I'm going to save some money to buy an entry level Audio Note DAC.

I heard a Cary 308 CD player today with Musical Fidelity X-Can and the Grado 325.

The combination wasn't that good. Lots of warm mid-range, but I couldn't get the famous punching deep bad from the Grado 325.

I think my home system beats it in some way.
