I can’t figure out what the deal is with their mixing. It has got to be some of the most funky sounding mixing ever. Oddly listenable, but not in any way normal. What’s the story with how their material sounds?

Don't they do some funky reverb effects to try and mimic a live sound in the studio? seems I recently read a snippet about it.

No idea. It sounds very trebly but it's really difficult to figure out what's going on with their sound.
