looking through the threads, i don't seem to see many comparisons between the top end pcdps from sony and panasonic. i seem to see good things writen about the sony d777 and the panasonic ct570. how do they compare to eachother and to other players like the panasonic 780 and 790 or the newer sonys?

For a modern day portable the 570 is pretty decent (alternative use of kicks ass). Use it without the anti-skip otherwise the sound gets compressed.

Only if you use the 40-second anti-skip. The 570 has 10-second non-compressed anti-skip.

Sony D-EJ925- The headphone out is pretty good on this one, with the line out as quite good. It's what I own myself.

Actually the phones out on the 925 is pretty shocking !! and I mean shocking !!...the line out is good though.

I only used the phones out like once or twice.

i use the 925, and love the line out. if yer planning on going for cans that need an amp, then you'll want something w/ a line out. the 925 is a pretty tasty pcdp, very thin, and good sounding. i use it with a total airhead 4.5v and ety er4s and i amazed at how wonderful everything sounds. if you're not gonna get the amp, then there may be something that has a better headphone out. what, i don't know.

...Lets put it this way Puck...

The D777 kicks the Panasonics butt on the headphone out, and I'm fairly sure it would via line out too... but, then - the E905 kicks the D777s butt via both headphone, and line out... very smooth and detailed is amazing

Realistically though, even the D777 is many steps up from 'normal' PCDPs, try and find either Sony on EBay, pick it up, and be blown away by the sound

And... D777 vs EJ825 (okay okay not quite the same player, but its only the headphone out that is compromised) - the EJ825 can only eat the D777s dust...

What are the problems with the 925's headphone out? I noticed some quality of sound degredation thorugh the headphone as opposed to the line-out, but it was more or less satisfactory (then again the earphones I was using at the time were horrible- which will change soon) Which players have a better line-out than the 925, though?

D777 vs D555?

I wouldn't have a clue... The D777 isn't the most accurate player on earth though... how does the D555 fair? - if you could give a rough idea, and I could try and compare from that?!

The 925s phones out is somewhat unlistenable to my ears anyways...
