What's the best rechargeble batteries and why?

For those that are concerned with the lower maximum capacity of the Hybrid NiMH batteries, don't be.

For use in my Pentax DSLR, the Eneloops lasted longer than my Duracell NiMH's. But probably because self discharge of the Duracell's.

Unless you are doing a lot of continuous use at one time, hybrid NiMH will outlast standard NiMH in real world useage.

would anyone else be interested in hearing about chargers that perform well with these fine batteries? I believe there have been threads in the past that told horror stories about cheap chargers over-cooking batteries to the point of no return.
There was even one post about trying to recharge throw-away batteries,and I guess it worked a couple of times until the time it failed. When it did fail it not only cooked the batteries but the acid ran down onto the stove control panel and left a permanent melted mess.

I use eneloops AA also. For my guitar hero controller and portable fan.
