The more you can get them to look like the ER4S , the better they will sound

1. Take EX-70's.
2. Open lid to trash can.
3. Place EX-70's inside.
4. Close lid.

A more extensive mod, that may yield more satisfactory results.

1. Get fire proof container.
2. Place EX-70's inside.
3. Cover with lighter fluid.
4. Strike a match.
5. Place match inside container with EX-70's.

Either method will yield more satisfying sound than the unmodded EX-70's.

But, doesn't that EQ mod reqire a DSP in between the source and the phones? Pretty useless for MD > ex70 use.

You rip the CD, process the file on your computer, the output to MD. Hey, nobody said it's convenient

Ah. Gotcha. But, then I'd have a bunch of MDs that sound sweet with the ex70s, but probably off with my sr870s or when plugged into the input of my home stereo.

So wait, with the silver mod will I have to take the stuff out of the tubes, forever screwing my EX70s if I screw up the mod?
Like you know the tube you put the rubbers on? You have to dig inside and pull that stuff out??

Stunna,
Right now, your tubes are hollow with only a little bit of felt cardboard in the opening.

I removed that peice of felt, then I put a small strip (4 cm x 1 cm) of rolled cheap headphone foam in the tube and sealed it woth foil tape. then I poked a hole in it.

That and covering the three holes on the back with tape.

---------------------------------------

At least try covering the three holes in the back to bring the boom-boom bass back into proportion.

[edit] Just read the redshifter post I linked to carefully.

You don't have to do anything to the phones for the EQ mod. In fact, you can't use the EQ mod if you've done anything to the phones

Nope. Just gray cardboard that seems a little fuzzy on one side.

Try the mod. If you have trouble finding the tape he recommends, I can mail some to you as we have a roll here at work and it has paper backing and you won't need more than a couple inches of it - even considering the "trial and error" factor.
